During our visit to the St. Louis Festival of Nations at Tower Grove Park we found ourselves beside ourselves with culinary choices... After a walk past nearly all the kiosks, we doubled back and stopped at the Bosnian tent (first).
Ćevapi in Bosnia or ćevapčići in Slovenia is a grilled dish of minced meats (lamb & beef), a type of kabob, found traditionally in the countries of southeastern Europe. They are considered a national dish in Bosnia, Herzegovina, and Serbia. They are also common in most other Slavic states including Bulgaria :-)
They are usually served of 5-10 pieces on a plate or in a flatbread (lepinje or somun), often with chopped onions and sour cream.
I was first introduced to this delicacy on my maiden trek to Yugoslavia in 1988. Very beautiful country and so inexpensive at the time.
