STL Festival of Nations 2011
Read MoreDuring our visit to the St. Louis Festival of Nations at Tower Grove Park we found ourselves beside ourselves with culinary choices... After a walk past nearly all the kiosks, we doubled back and stopped at the Bulgarian tent (second lunch of the day). Again, I was taken in by the sausages and a light salad. These were quite a bit different but very well seasoned and tasty. It really made me miss my mom :-(

Ćevapi in Bosnia or ćevapčići in Slovenia is a grilled dish of minced meats (lamb & beef), a type of kabob, found traditionally in the countries of southeastern Europe. They are considered a national dish in Bosnia, Herzegovina, and Serbia. They are also common in most other Slavic states including Bulgaria :-)
They are usually served of 5-10 pieces on a plate or in a flatbread (lepinje or somun), often with chopped onions and sour cream.
I was first introduced to this delicacy on my maiden trek to Yugoslavia in 1988. Very beautiful country and so inexpensive at the time. The St. Louis Festival of Nations at Tower Grove Park! This lady was in front of the Mexican kiosk (Bazaar) holding an umbrella to keep the sun off. Notice her baby bump. Yup, it's in the back. She's carrying her little papoose under her gown to keep the sun off of the baby. His little foot was sticking out. Too crowded and too close to get the whole picture.
The St. Louis Festival of Nations at Tower Grove Park! It was a little warm and the beagle looks a bit older. Cyndy said a while before that it was too hot out for this particular dog. Sometime later we saw her being carried while her two companions are trotting along side. She had plenty of water offered. She reminds me of Red.
